The Prem Seva Mahila Mandal (PSMM), ( Love & Service Women`s Organization ) Kalyan, Thane District, Maharashtra, focuses primarily on the uplift of the downtrodden : Women of the lower middle class group, Widows and Domestic workers, and has been in existence since the year 2001. The brainchild of Mr. and Mrs. James and Stella Morais the Mandal has a variety of activities such as:
- Identifying and working on solutions to problems of women, encouraging them to come out into the open and better themselves.
- Conducting various workshops and Courses
- Balwadi Teachers’ and Engish Montessori Teachers’ Training.
- Tailoring and Dress making
- Beauty and Beautician’s Courses
- Computers for the Dummy
- Elements of English speaking
- Widow’s Evening Out
- Legal Cell
- Balwadi Play School
- Adult Education Assistance
- Door step School for underprivileged children
- Medical Aid – Gynaec, Opthalmic and General Practitioners
- Self Help Group
- Self-Employment Scheme
- Close knit interaction with the Tribal villages in Murbad & Shahapur Talukas
- Taking basic education to the tribals, children of the brick-kiln sites, construction site workers children of the rag pickers, nomads, gypsy clans on the outskirts of Kalyan
- Interaction with the inmates (children) of the remand home, Bhiwandi.
- Rural Projects - Building toilets, check dams, farming ponds, watershed.
- Helping the villagers in knowing their rights to RTI, awareness about conservation of environment, legal awareness.
- Helping them with basic amenities like water etc.
- Liaison Ing activities with service provides medical and immunization check-ups, camps conducted regularly. Immunization height weight charts are maintained.
- Mobile door step check-up of women and children.
- Counselling services for violence, physical abuse, legal help, police help and refer for further intervention.
